Encapsulation Classification

- Encapsulation can be classified into can, TFE and hybrid methods.
- All encapsulation methods can be applied to rigid OLEDs for mobile devices.
- TFE and hybrid encapsulation can be applied to flexible OLEDs for mobile devices.
- Only hybrid encapsulation can be applied to OLEDs for large-screen TVs.
Hybrid Method

- Combines the advantages of can encapsulation and TFE.
- Consists of a passivation film, a cover plate with gas-barrier properties and a polymer that bonds the film to the cover plate.
- Methods include using an adhesive polymer in solution form (dam-and-fill method) or processing it into film form (film lamination method).
- Liquid polymers are applied by screen or inkjet printing; film-based methods use a roll laminator.
- Fewer passivation steps than TFE reduce capital investment.
- Transparent polymers enable the production of top-emission AMOLED panels.
